Design luminary, Stefan Sagmeister – his take on design and happiness headlines Creative3 Forum 2011

Grammy Award-winning designer Stefan Sagmeister will share his latest thinking on design and happiness – both the conscious and unconscious kind – at the Creative3 International Forum in Brisbane in October.
Sagmeister of New York-based studio Sagmeister Inc is one of the world’s most renowned graphic designers. He has designed for clients as diverse as the Rolling Stones, HBO, and the Guggenheim Museum and has won two Grammies for theTalking Heads and Brian Eno and David Byrne package designs. He challenges design convention, using a wide variety of mediums to elicit a response from his audience.
His book , Things I have learned in my life so far began as a list made in his diary under the same title and includes statements such as “Complaining is silly. Either act or forget” and “Trying to look good limits my life.”
With the support of his clients, his studio transformed the sentences from the book into typographic works, from billboards in France to sign-toting inflatable monkeys on the streets of Scotland.
His life lessons and rules for life and design happiness he says, can apply to everyone seeking more joy and among his ‘rules’ is his decision to close his studio every seven years for a year-long sabbatical to rejuvenate and refresh his creative outlook.
At the Creative3 Forum Sagmeister will explore the possibilities to achieve fulfilment as a designer and his latest thinking on the future of design. An interactive panel and Q&A session will give the audience a unique opportunity to engage in a meaningful dialogue with Sagmeister on these key issues.
At the Creative3 forum Sagmeister will discuss: the future of design and happiness on Thursday 27 October 2011 at 11.45am at the State Library of Queensland, South Bank.
Host of the event, Creative Enterprise Australia CEO Anna Rooke said Creative3 offers a rare opportunity for many Australian creative businesses to hear first-hand and learn from some of the world’s most inspiring and influential creatives.
“Creative3 2011 will build on the success of last year’s inaugural event by again focusing on the three fundamental elements of creativity, enterprise and investment, while exploring the real issues faced by creative businesses and the latest trends and technologies to advance and sustain growth,” Ms Rooke said.
The forum will bring together a 300 plus audience from leading creative entrepreneurs to Australia’s emerging talent and offer a practical hands-on program with more interactive panels and masterclasses to provide even greater opportunity to mix and learn from the world’s best.
